Are Carisi and Rollins together?
Rollins and Carisi get married – Rollins went through some major life updates in Season 24 of SVU, which began with the detective narrowly escaping death after getting shot. After recovering and returning to the SVU, Rollins struggled with paranoia and anxiety, with Carisi becoming her support system during the challenging adjustment period.
- The moment that finally dragged Rollins out of her rut occurred when Carisi volunteered her for a lecturing gig at his law school, Fordham.
- While teaching law students, Rollins began to feel like herself again, and her relationship with Carisi (and herself) only got better.
- SVU fans rejoiced in the midseason finale when Carisi and Rollins surprised their colleagues with a courthouse ceremony.
Rollins told them, “Carisi and I were talking, and we realized that marriage is a lot like a crime. We have a motive, opportunity.” All Carisi and Rollins needed were witnesses, and they didn’t want to get married without their SVU buddies there. The surprises didn’t end with the wedding, either.
Rollins also revealed to Benson and her longtime colleagues that she accepted a full-time teaching position at Fordham. After 12 years of putting criminals behind bars, Rollins bid farewell to the SVU as a married woman and soon-to-be professor to future crime-fighters. Now that Rollins and Carisi head off into this next chapter together, it’s safe to say their bond is stronger than ever.

Is Rollins pregnant on SVU?
Character within SVU – The character is at first portrayed as wet behind the ears and over-eager, and is frequently chastised by Captain Donald Cragen ( Dann Florek ) for getting ahead of herself. Over time, however, she grows into the job. She shares a good rapport with her partner, Detective Fin Tutuola ( Ice-T ).
- Shortly after transferring to the 16th Precinct, Rollins investigates a series of rapes that she believes are being committed by a suspect in one of her cases in Georgia.
- Rollins tries to prove to Detectives Olivia Benson ( Mariska Hargitay ) and Nick Amaro ( Danny Pino ) that the rapist originated in Atlanta and has come to New York for new prey.
She nearly falls victim to him while trying to flush him out; the rapist has a preference for blonde, athletic women like her. In the season 14 episode “Poisoned Motive”, Rollins is shot by a sniper in front of the precinct. Her shooting leads back to the daughter of Tutuola’s former partner, who is seeking revenge on the NYPD after her father was injured on the job.
In the season 14 episode “Deadly Ambition”, Kim shows up at Rollins’ door after leaving her abusive boyfriend, Jeff Parker (Theis Weckesser), who is also the father of her unborn child. One day, Rollins returns home to find Parker apparently raping Kim, and she shoots and kills him. Eventually, however, she discovers that Kim staged the rape to manipulate Rollins into killing Parker, all so she could collect on his life insurance policy.
Kim makes withdrawals from the policy in both their names, making it look as if Rollins masterminded the plan to kill Parker, and disappears. Rollins is arrested and charged with murder, but is exonerated with help from the SVU squad. In the season 16 episode “Forgiving Rollins”, it is revealed that while Rollins was working for the Atlanta PD, her sister got into trouble with the law, and Rollins was willing to sleep with her boss, Deputy Chief Charles Patton ( Harry Hamlin ), in order to get the charges dropped.
When he started to get too rough with her, Rollins withdrew her consent, but Patton overpowered and raped her. She later helps another of Patton’s victims, APD Detective Reese Taymor ( Dreama Walker ), get justice, resulting in Patton going into forced retirement and being put on the sex offender registry,
In “Spousal Privilege”, Rollins expresses the belief that domestic violence should be kept private unless the victim wishes to come forward, feeling that the police have no right to make choices on a woman’s behalf. This leads to a conflict with Amaro, who witnessed his father regularly beat his mother, who refused to leave and report him.
- During an argument, Rollins drunkenly attempts to goad Amaro into hitting her, but he walks away.
- Much later in “Great Expectations”, after having a child, she expresses disdain for a mother who did not protect her children from their father’s abuse, and says the possibility that the mother is also being abused is no excuse.
It is implied in several episodes that Rollins is in a romantic, or at least sexual, relationship with Amaro. In one episode, a suspect asks if they are sleeping together; they do not answer his question and change the subject. When Amaro beats up a suspect, Rollins blackmails the suspect’s wife to get him to drop the charges.
In the episode “Reasonable Doubt”, Amaro comes out of a shower in Rollins’ apartment, and joins her on a sofa, clad only in a towel. It is confirmed in season 17 that Amaro and Rollins were romantically involved when Rollins discovers she is pregnant and says Amaro is not the father, meaning they did at least sleep together.
The father of Rollins’ child is later revealed to be Lt. Declan Murphy ( Donal Logue ), her former commanding officer. Murphy is deep undercover in Eastern Europe when he learns of the pregnancy, but he returns to New York to give her a direct line to him if she ever needs him.
- While Rollins is in labor, she suffers a placental abruption, almost resulting in her death, but she survives and gives birth to a baby girl she names Jesse.
- Her partner, Dominick “Sonny” Carisi, ( Peter Scanavino ), who comes from a large family, frequently assists Rollins with the baby.
- In “Heightened Emotions”, Rollins’ turbulent relationship with her sister is revisited, as Kim is granted parole after having apparently gotten sober and found religion.
At this point, Kim begs to stay with Rollins rather than going to a shelter, and Rollins reluctantly agrees. However, near the end of the episode, Rollins finds Kim taking pills and accuses her sister of relapsing, only to learn that the drugs were actually lithium and asenapine, which Kim has been taking for bipolar disorder after being officially diagnosed during her trial.
- Im then admits to Rollins that while she misses her former manic energy, this is the first time in her life that she has felt good about herself.
- In “Service”, it is revealed that she dislikes escorts, to the point of suggesting that an escort rape victim brought the assault on herself.
- The victim shows up at the station to complain that the investigation is hurting her business, and Rollins gives her $300 out of disgust; insulted, the victim throws the money in Rollins’ face.
Eventually, however, Rollins comes to see the victim as a human being and is instrumental in bringing her rapist to justice. While having dinner with the victim to apologize for her behavior, Rollins admits that her prejudice against escorts stems from a former boyfriend cheating on her with one.
- In “The Book of Esther”, she uses deadly force during a hostage situation with a religious cult,
- Afterward, she finds out that she fired the shot that killed one of the cult members, a young woman she had tried to save from her abusive father, the patriarch of the cult.
- She is wracked with guilt, but finds some comfort in going to church.
In “Man Up”, she reveals to Benson that she is pregnant with her second child. Also, she meets up with Dr. Al Pollack ( George Newbern ), her ex-boyfriend, for a lunch date and prepares to tell him about her pregnancy, but bolts out when she sees him flirting with a waitress and becomes unsure of balancing her second pregnancy with raising Jesse and with her work at SVU.
In “Zero Tolerance”, she considers getting back together with Pollack and tells him she is pregnant. When she is stunned by his reaction offering to pay for her abortion, after bonding with a girl who is separated from her mother and would like another sibling, she later decides to keep the baby, telling Pollack she does not need anything from him.
After Pollack apologizes for his insensitive comments, Rollins decides to give him another chance. He eventually asks her to move in with him at his apartment. She contemplates the situation, seeing as there is barely enough room for her and Jesse in her own apartment, yet is unsure of her own feelings for Pollack.
- After Carisi tells her to do what she feels is best for herself and her children, however, she agrees to move in with Pollack.
- She gives birth to a girl she names Billie in “A Story of More Woe”; Pollack proposes to her while she is in labor, but she rejects his proposal and breaks up with him, admitting that she does not love him.
In “Eternal Relief from Pain”, Rollins is granted temporary custody of Kim’s son and allows both of them to stay at her apartment. She reluctantly extends the invitation to her father Jim so that he can visit his grandchildren, even though he is a drug addict and the terms of Kim’s parole bar her from associating with known addicts.
Jim overdoses on heroin and is rushed to a hospital, but leaves shortly after recovering. The experience unnerves Kim so badly that she voluntarily returns to prison in order to undergo drug treatment, leaving her son in her mother’s custody. In “Solving for the Unknowns”, Rollins is promoted to Detective 2nd Grade.
In the season 23 premiere, “And the Empire Strikes Back”, Rollins and Carisi become a couple. In the Season 24 episode “And a Trauma in a Pear Tree,” Rollins marries Carisi and retires from the NYPD in order to accept a teaching position at Fordham University,

Why did Mariska Hargitay leave ‘SVU’ in Season 8? – When we first met her on the premiere of Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, Mariska Hargitay was Detective Olivia Benson, a passionate Special Victims detective with a personal connection to the heinous cases she was tasked with solving.
Today, Olivia is the longest-running female character in any primetime series, and fans have watched as she has grown from Detective to Lieutenant to Captain. He knew how to get into trouble, both on and off the job, but never knowingly put his partner, Detective Olivia Benson, in harm’s way.

Leaving at the last minute, his character was given a quick write off after Season 12. How was Amaro written out of SVU?
After leaving Law & Order: Special Victims Unit at the end of season 16, Danny Pino is back, reprising his role as Nick Amaro for the series’ 500th episode, which sees the former detective turning to Olivia Benson ( Mariska Hargitay ) and the SVU team for help clearing a convicted man’s name.
- Speaking to ET, Pino opened up about his return to the franchise, what he thinks about Amaro’s off-screen evolution, and if this will open the door for more episodes or appearances down the road.
- It feels amazing to be welcomed back and for the show to be still so resonant and so needed,” Pino says.
“Obviously, I have incredible memories and relationships from when I was on the show. So, it’s always great to touch base and to create something new and fresh with this team.” After transferring to the SVU in season 13, Det. Amaro proved to be dedicated to the cause.
But his temperament often got the best of him, with an off-duty assault of a pedophile leading to a temporary demotion. And because of a history of misconduct accusations, his hopes of moving up the ranks proved to be a pipe dream. By the end of season 16, Amaro was last seen injured in a courtroom shootout, marking the end of his time at SVU.
In the season 17 premiere, it’s revealed that he retired from the NYPD and moved to Los Angeles. “His life was rather tumultuous, with his relationship to his career. His time at SVU is certainly dramatic, to say the least,” Pino says, looking back. NBC Seven years later, after having gone back to grad school for genetics and forensic science, Amaro now solves cold cases by testing DNA samples originally considered too small or too degraded. And it’s his work with the crime writer and podcast host Burton Lowe (Aidan Quinn) that brings him back to SVU with hopes that they’ll reopen a case involving a 15-year-old boy convicted of rape and strangling his prom date.
When it comes to Amaro’s off-screen evolution, Pino says it was interesting to see how he’s changed over the years – and he’s quite happy to see where his character has ended up. “He certainly has a positive direction to his life where he’s still able to do what he feels is important, which is solving cases and bringing closure to families,” the actor says.
“And in addition to that, evolving as a person, getting postgraduate degrees, starting to crack 50-year-old cold cases and bridging that gap between what we know about forensic science, genetics, and genealogy.” Of course, as the episode plays out, there are the typical twists and turns in both the case and the dynamics of returning faces, which also includes Dann Florek as retired Captain Donald Cragen, Tamara Tunie as medical examiner Dr.
Melinda Warner as well as Hargitay’s husband, Peter Hermann, as defense attorney Trevor Langan. But the story didn’t ruin the fun on-set, especially when it came to Pino reuniting with Hargitay (“I respect her so much, not only for who she is and for her artistry, but what she does for survivors”) as well as with longtime cast member Kelli Giddish, who joined as Amanda Rollins in season 16.
“Kelli and I came onto the show at the same time, when it was heavily in transition. And I think that weathering that storm, the critics and the fans not knowing really what’s going to happen to the show, Kelli and I bonded over that,” Pino says, noting that the chemistry between them flowed into one of his favorite scenes of the episode as Rollins and Amaro catch up. NBC While Pino has since gone onto star in FX’s Mayans M.C., filming that series is a very different experience from SVU, which has garnered a reputation for being a well-oiled machine in its 23 seasons. But the actor says returning to the set felt comfortable.
Though, he did note how the long-running series “has taken a jump forward.” “Aesthetically, what the show looks like, that might be the biggest change for me and looking at the monitor and watching what we were shooting and shadowing when I wasn’t in certain scenes just to see how he was going to shoot it,” Pino says, “tipping my hat to how the show has evolved.” In fact, stepping back into Amaro’s shoes was a nostalgic experience for Pino.
“So much has changed in our world. I mean, just in the last two years so much has already changed, and certainly since I left. So, it’s nice to have a touchstone of something that is consistent, not only in the locations where we shot, being back in New York City and Chelsea Piers, but being surrounded by this cast of friends that is so familiar to me,” the actor says, admitting it’s “flattering and humbling” to be one of the few SVU detectives to make a return appearance after leaving the show.
- I have such respect for the legacy of SVU, and Law & Order in general.
- So, it meant a lot to me,” Pino says of the series producers and showrunner to reach out to him and create this storyline for Amaro to come back with significance versus a brief cameo.
- And for that to happen on the 500th episode, it’s an honor to be a part of.” Of course, it remains to be seen if this will open the door for Pino to make future appearances in the franchise, especially given Amaro’s involvement in solving cold cases.
“I’ve learned in this business never to say never,” Pino says. “I think that the show’s in fantastic shape, it’s been doing incredibly well without me. So, I’m just happy to reconnect and to give the fans something back because there has been so many people reaching out to me over the years, asking if and when Amaro would come back.” The 500th episode of Law & Order: SVU airs Thursday, Oct.21 at 9 p.m.
Why was Amaro demoted on SVU?
Character within SVU – Amaro is an NYPD detective 2nd grade who transfers to the Special Victims Unit after spending time with both the warrants and narcotics squads. Like Fin Tutuola ( Ice-T ), he had previously worked undercover while in narcotics. Initially, Amaro has a strained relationship with his new partner, Detective Olivia Benson ( Mariska Hargitay ), mainly because she misses her old partner, Elliot Stabler ( Christopher Meloni ).
Despite their rocky start, however, Amaro and Benson grow to have a mutual respect for each other and work well together. He had an antagonistic relationship with ADA Rafael Barba ( Raúl Esparza ); Amaro resents Barba, who is also Cuban-American and from a working-class family, for “selling out” by going to Harvard and distancing himself from his cultural roots.
However, there were times the pair were on good terms. During his early days in SVU, Amaro has a tough time dealing with the horrible crimes he sees every day, and tells Benson he has the urge to physically assault a suspect. She tells him the better solution would be to ensure that the perpetrators never see the light of day again.
In the episode “Hunting Ground”, Amaro fatally shoots a serial killer who has Benson at gunpoint. It is the first time he has ever killed anyone, and he is badly shaken by the experience. In the episode “Valentine’s Day”, he sees his wife go into an apartment of a man he does not know. In “Street Revenge”, he follows his wife to see where she goes during the day; he assaults the man he sees her with.
She subsequently finds out, and they get into a heated argument in the SVU squad room in front of his colleagues. She tells him that the man he saw her with is a psychiatrist she is seeing because she is trying to adapt back into her old life. Amaro is clearly rattled by this, and in subsequent episodes, begins suppressing his anger until it explodes during the investigation into madam Delia Wilson ( Brooke Smith ), when he threatens to shoot Detective Brian Cassidy ( Dean Winters ) if Cassidy does not tell him for whom he is working undercover.
This, along with his erratic behavior, briefly alienates his SVU colleagues; for example, they are reluctant to give him sensitive information regarding the false charges against Captain Donald Cragen ( Dann Florek ), fearing that he will make matters worse. In “Twenty-Five Acts”, Amaro asks temporary SVU commanding officer Captain Steven Harris ( Adam Baldwin ) to let him work their rape case solo, telling Benson she needs a partner she can trust.
Benson ends up working the case with Rollins. In the episode “Undercover Blue”, Cassidy is put on trial for rape when he is falsely accused by a prostitute working for pimp Bart Ganzel ( Peter Jacobson ). Amaro is called to the stand by ADA Derek Strauss ( Greg Germann ), who asks about his undercover work.
- When Cassidy’s lawyer questions him, Amaro is forced to reveal that he had a romantic relationship with the sister of a drug lord he was investigating undercover.
- Sergeant John Munch ( Richard Belzer ) then informs him that the NYPD brass is requesting he take a paternity test because the woman is claiming he has a son from the relationship.
He goes to the woman’s house to confront her, but is denied by her boyfriend. Later, while watching the boyfriend pick the boy up from school, he witnesses the man use the boy as a carrier during a drug deal. Amaro then meets the boy and tells the woman that her boyfriend is using their son to deal drugs.
After Cassidy apologizes to Amaro for what his lawyer did, he helps him bust the boyfriend for drug dealing. The episode concludes with Amaro knocking on the woman’s door, and her letting him in to bond with their son, Gil. In “Born Psychopath”, he is shot by a 10-year-old boy while apprehending him for abusing his sister.
Amaro is arrested for assaulting pedophile Simon Wilkes ( Joshua Malina ), while off duty. He is then charged by the district attorney and placed on leave. The charges are subsequently dropped, but he is demoted and reassigned to the 116th Precinct in Queens as a patrol officer.
At Benson’s request, he is reinstated to SVU after his by-the-book handling of the arrest of Hollywood starlet Tensley Evans (Stevie Lynn Jones). In the Season 16 finale, Amaro plans to take the sergeant’s exam and move up the ranks. However, Benson tells him that, because of his history of misconduct accusations, the NYPD will never promote him no matter how well he does; angered, Amaro throws his study materials in the garbage but he eventually got over it.
Shortly thereafter, Amaro is involved in a courtroom shootout with Johnny Drake ( Charles Halford ), a brutal sex trafficker and pimp. Amaro shoots Drake dead, while Drake shoots Amaro in the liver and knee. Amaro survives the shootout and is seen in crutches at the end of the episode, requiring three months of physical therapy.
He reveals to Benson that he intends to retire from the NYPD because of his inability to move up the ranks, in addition to his injuries. He plans to move to California, since Maria is now in Los Angeles with Zara, and Cynthia is planning to move to San Diego with Gil. Before Amaro leaves, Benson remarks on how much her life has changed over the years of working with him and they make a promise to each other to stay friends forever.
At the beginning of Season 17, Rollins mentions that Amaro is now living in Los Angeles, undergoing physical therapy for his injuries, and angling for a position with the United States Park Police, In the 500th episode, which aired during the 23rd season, Amaro is now working for a company that specializes in analyzing cold-case DNA with new technologies, which bring him back to Manhattan in order to clear a man who was wrongfully convicted in a 1996 case which involved the sexual assault and fatal strangulation of a teenage girl.
Is Richard Belzer returning to law and order?
‘Law & Order: SVU’: Richard Belzer returning as Detective Munch Richard Belzer is returning to Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, EW has learned exclusively. The original cast member, whose character retired in season 15, will guest-star in an episode slated for May, titled “Fashionable Crimes,” in which Munch returns to weigh in on the case of a young model who claims she was preyed upon by a famous fashion house photographer.

Mariska Hargitay Chokes Up Imagining Life Without “Law & Order: SVU” Is it just us, or is it getting steamy in the squad room? Six years after Detective Nick Amaro ( Danny Pino ) parted ways with Olivia Benson ( Mariska Hargitay ) and her squad, he returns for the 500th episode of Law and Order: Special Victims Unit,
- The reunion has been in the works for quite some time, thanks to longtime SVU executive producing director and Pino’s real-life pal, Norberto Barba,
- Norberto and I first worked together on SVU when I was a regular on the show.
- Norberto being Cuban-American like myself, we immediately hit it off and had so many similar points of interest and experience,” Pino exclusively revealed to E! News on Oct.20.
Barba and Pino collaborated again post- SVU on FX’s Mayans M.C., which is entering its fourth season. “We’ve been friends and close all along, and he texted me to kind of gauge my interest in whether I want to come back for the 500 th episode,” Pino explained.
The star worked closely with SVU showrunner Warren Leight to craft “who Amaro is now and how he evolved since last we saw him,” Pino noted. “Having Amaro be involved in the storytelling and having a well-thought-out and meaningful arc within the episode was important to both of us.” Jon Kopaloff/Getty Images Leight, alongside writers Julie Martin and Brianna Yellen, drew parallels between Pino’s and Amaro’s shared growth both on and off-screen.
“What I love about the re-introduction of Amaro is we’re not only bringing back a character, they’re also bringing back an actor,” Pino continued. “In much the same way that Amaro has evolved professionally and personally in his life, so have I. Coming back to a show that is so vibrant and so necessary and current, in such fertile soil for creativity and bringing back a character who has had positive changes in his life, professionally and personally, in much the same way there’s been an evolution of my experience as an actor, as a father, as a parent, and bringing all of those things to bare for Amaro.” Pino credited Hargitay for mirroring that “evolution” in her character as well.

Does Cabot leave SVU?
Departure from SVU – After three seasons, Cabot made her departure from SVU in the season-five episode “Loss”, in which she is prosecuting a rapist named Rafael Zapata Gaviria (Jacinto Taras Riddick), who works for drug lord Cesar Velez. Zapata had brutally raped and murdered an undercover NYPD officer who was working with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
Cabot receives a threat on her life, as well as that of her mother. Despite warnings from the rest of the SVU squad, Cabot continues to prosecute the case, unwilling to let Zapata scare her. Tim Donovan ( Josh Hopkins ), a key witness and DEA special agent, is murdered in a car bombing right before Cabot’s eyes.
Cabot initially wants to try Zapata, even with no witness and her own life on the line, but after pressure from the SVU detectives and District Attorney Arthur Branch ( Fred Thompson ), she drops the charges. However, Zapata is immediately arrested by federal agents for the witness’s murder and is subsequently killed in his cell.
- At the conclusion of the episode, Cabot is apparently killed in a drive-by shooting while saying goodnight to Benson and Detective Elliot Stabler ( Christopher Meloni ).
- In the following scene, a cold, quiet SVU squad room is shown with Stabler reading a newspaper proclaiming her death.
- Benson and Stabler are called to a deserted area by federal agents, where Cabot emerges from the car.
She tells the stunned detectives that she had insisted on telling them the truth before disappearing into the Witness Protection Program, She is replaced in the following episode by ADA Casey Novak ( Diane Neal ).
